Coaching is a purpose oriented conversation, and this distinguishes it from day to day casual chats.  At any point in time, the coach should be able to articulate his intent for asking a certain question, reasons for offering a certain input and where he is hoping to take his client.  It is a delicate process of pushing and pulling, facilitating and cajoling, confronting and supporting.

The end result is a deeper awareness and clarity, heightened sense of motivation and abilities to achieve the goals whilst retaining complete responsibilities for himself.

Instances where Coaching may be relevant and helpful include:

·         Taking on a new job or assignment

·         Transitioning from a technical to a leadership role

·         Change management

·         Leadership development

·         Specific problems or issues to deal with

ACC's Practice

It is recommended that, in typical cases, the client should consider attending 6 coaching sessions, over a period of approximately 6 months, each session being 2 hours.

At the start of the series, the coach and coachee will agree on goals to be achieved, success criteria and other ground rules pertaining to the relationship.  Towards the end of the 6-session series, the goals are reviewed and the next step agreed on.

Occasional telephone calls and emails are encouraged in between sessions.
