Hypnosis is known to be safe and free from side effects. It may, however, have acquired an unfair reputation from TV and stage shows. The following addresses some common issues asked by many.
I cannot be hypnotized
If you are over 4 years old, mentally healthy, free from drugs or alcohol intoxication and willing to participate, then you can be hypnotized. It is true, however, that some people are naturally more easily hypnotized than others.
I lose consciousness when hypnotized
You are fully awake and aware of your surrounding when in hypnosis, there is no loss of consciousness at all. You are simply relaxed but focused.
I cannot wake up
The worst outcome in hypnosis is the client falls asleep! You would then wake up naturally like you normally do. A good hypnotist, however, is able to induce and maintain the hypnotic state without letting the client fall asleep.
The hypnotist is in control of me and may make me do things I don't want to do
As you are fully awake and aware, you remain in control of what you do. You can open your eyes and leave the room anytime you wish! No hypnotist is able to get you to do anything you wouldn’t normally do, or to make you do anything to harm yourself.
