How do I tell the employer I was retrenched?

Being retrenched has become commonplace, it’s common knowledge to employers that it’s not performance related.

I should go for the first job available.

Being retrenched or job change is an opportunity to take stock and be sure before you make a move.  Put your situation into perspective, ask yourself how long you can last before you have to get a job.

I should consider a pay-cut

Never take a pay-cut or a lesser job than one you’d like just because you are out of work, you won’t be happy for long. Always think what you are worth.

I am too old.

Not an issue.  More important is how you show you can add value, younger candidates don’t have the experiences or insights.
